The Sleep Problem Nobody Warns You About After the Baby Years

There's a myth that gets repeated to every exhausted new parent: "It gets better once they're sleeping through." And to be fair, our son did start sleeping through the night. What nobody mentioned was that we wouldn't.

Years of broken sleep, night feeds, and general low-level vigilance had rewired something. Even with a full night available, we'd lie there wired, or wake at 3am for no obvious reason, or drag ourselves up in the morning feeling like we hadn't slept at all. It turns out sleep isn't just about opportunity it's a habit and a system, and ours was broken.

So, much like we did with fitness and recovery, we started testing things properly rather than just hoping it would sort itself out.

A weighted blanket made an immediate difference to how quickly we settled there's something about the pressure that just switches your body off. A sleep mask that actually blocked out light properly, rather than the flimsy ones that let every bit of morning sun through, helped more than we expected. White noise took some getting used to, but on nights when the house wasn't silent, it made a real difference. And lavender spray became such a fixed part of our routine that not having it now feels like something's missing.

None of it was a magic fix. All of it, together, helped us claw back the kind of sleep we'd almost forgotten was possible. If you're in that stage where the hard bit is supposed to be over but your sleep still isn't right, you're not imagining it and you're not alone. We built the Burbox Sleep range around exactly the products that got us there, one small change at a time.
